Besiyata Dishmaya (Jewish Babylonian Aramaic: בְּסִיַּעְתָּא דִּשְׁמַיָּא) is an Aramaic phrase, meaning ‘with the help of Heaven’. Abbreviated as the acronym BS”D/בס״ד, traditionally it has been placed at the top of documents like letters and notes – but what if you wanted to acknowledge Heaven’s Help in other places? Taken from various illustrations of mine, examples of the acronym have been stylized into pomegranates, olives branches, hamsas, and the Ner Tamid symbol (which also has the Yiddish phrase “We Will Outlive Them”).
