Partisan Rachel Rudnitzki – Ner Tamid Series

Description

During the Holocaust, thousands of Jews decided to risk everything and fight as partisans in paramilitary groups. These amazing souls fought for the survival of our people behind enemy lines, and yet photos of their smiling defiant faces are rarely shared. My “Ner Tamid” (“Eternal Light”) series remedies this.

This illustration features partisan Rachel Ludnitzki, smiling after liberating an Eastern European village. She is framed by a Hamsa symbol, with Yiddish around it that reads “Let us not be taken like sheep to the slaughter!” and “Fascism and Nazism must be smashed!” Below it is a “Hechsher” symbol that says in Yiddish “We will outlive them” with the Hebrew words “Ner Tamid” stylized to look like a lamp. An olive motif moves throughout the piece, with “BS”D” in the shape of an olive at the top right, and olives sprouting from Ludnitzki’s rifle.
