Description
The New Mexico Whiptail Lizard is a species of lizard that contains only females. They reproduce by parthenogenesis, a complex biological process in which a female organism produces offspring without interacting with males. This particular lizard is unique, however, in that they must engage in the act of copulation in order to trigger the process. Put simply, the lizards have sex with one another, and as a result, birth new lizards.
